The National University of Córdoba (UNC) ranks 854th in the World University Rankings established by the Center for World University (CWUR) Center in Saudi Arabia.

He is the third among the Argentineans behind the national institutions of Buenos Aires (UBA), which ranks 344th; and from La Plata (UNLP) to 596th position.

"To be among the thousands of the most important universities in the world, that is a lot," said Roberto Terzariol, secretary general of the UNC.

And he adds: "The UBA, UNLP and UNC commands are adequate. We need to improve the way we show the link with the environment, which will allow us to improve a lot to bring us closer to the UNLP.

In addition, he notes that the ranking is very tight because if the UNC scored 71.4 points to locate themselves, Harvard University has reached science. "Of the first thousand places, there are only 30 points difference," says Terzariol.

  • From UNC to Google California: "You are surrounded by talented people and you grow almost inertia"

However, the three study houses lost positions compared to last year. UBA increased from 293 to 344; UNLP rose from 545 to 596 and the UNC, from 762 to 854.

Nadim Mahbaden, President of CWUR, explains to Infobae that the performance of Argentine universities was similar to that of last year but that this was not enough to maintain their positions in the ranking.

"Today, Argentine universities do not have to compete only with other Latin American institutions. The competition is global and there is no room for conformism at this level, "he said.

Reasons for withdrawal

Mahbaden thinks that the fall of Argentine universities could be badociated with the budget. "In the absence of sustained sustained investment, Argentine universities have the opportunity to project themselves into the future," he said.

Terzariol warns on this point that it is not guaranteed that with more money the score obtained in these rankings will be improved. "But at a lower level, it's always going to get worse," he admits.

And he adds: "It is very difficult for Argentinian state universities with unlimited income and free to compete with private universities with quota reviews and monthly payments."

What did you measure

CWUR took into account seven variables to prepare the ranking.

  • Quality of education. Measured by the number of alumni of a university having won major awards, awards and international medals in relation to the size of the university (25%)
  • Employment of former students. Measured by the number of students from a university having held CEO positions in the largest companies in the world compared to the size of the university (25%)
  • Academic quality. Measured by the number of academics who have won major awards, awards and international medals (10%)
  • search results. Measured by the total number of research articles (10%)
  • High quality publications. Measured by the number of research articles published in high-level journals (10%)
  • Influence. Measured by the number of research articles published in highly influential journals (10%)
  • citations. Measures for the number of highly cited research articles (10%)

Terzariol explains in this connection that Argentine universities perform other important tasks for the development of a country, but are not measured in these rankings.

And he mentions: "There are other aspects such as social advancement, improving the life of society, social climbing and other extension activities."
