The Nissan March undergoes the crash tests of Latin NCAP, the body that evaluates the safety of cars sold at 0 km in Latin America, and gets a very low score : a single star in protection for adults and two for children.
The compact sedan, which among others on the Argentine market in the segment of Toyota Etios, Ford Ka, Volkswagen Gol and Chevrolet Onix scored 7.16 points out of a maximum of 16 in the frontal test and 12.95 on the lateral.
The unit evaluated was manufactured in Brazil, as are those arriving in Argentina. But eye: did not have ABS brakes an active safety feature required by law on the local market. So why did not he bring it? Because in other countries of the region it does not offer it as standard. Yes, he has equipped two front airbags.
With the previous test protocol, this same car had reached four stars. With the new standards, which are more demanding, she dropped to one. " The structure was unstable and the frontal compression of the chest was high," says Latin NCAP.
At the same time, the Latin American agency attributes the note to the "marginal" protection of the chest in the lateral impact, the absence of the notice of safety belt unbuckled as standard equipment and the absence of Isofix anchors.
Other models tested this year by Latin NCAP: Chevrolet Onix and Prisma (3 stars), Fiat Toro (4 stars), Renault Sandero and Logan (1 star), and Volkswagen Virtus (5 stars).
