North Korea defies Trump, relaunches missiles and raises tension with Seoul

North Korea fired Thursday a series of short-range ballistic missiles, the South Korean army announced in a statement. These shots coincides with the visit to Seoul of an emissary from the United States in North Korea to try to unblock negotiations on the nuclear crisis with Kim Jong-un's regime.

They also take place just four days after a North Korean military exercise in which several projectiles were launched, including a short-range missile, according to experts.

The shooting, at 16:29 and 16:49 local time, was in the east, from the Sino-ri base, in the province of Pyongan del Norte, said in a statement the chief of the staff of the South Korean army. They had a "range of 420 and 270 kilometers"

Confirmation that it is short-range missiles hardens the attitude who adopts the Kim Jong-un regime, since North Korea has banned by the UN to try any type of ballistic missile or badociated technology.

At the landmark summit with Donald Trump in June 2018 in Singapore, Kim Jong-un pledged to "work for the complete denuclearization of the Korean peninsula." But skepticism has increased with the lack of concrete progress and before the failure of the last meeting between the two presidents last February in Hanoi.

Since then, the Korean leader has tried to "open the court" and has met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in search of Russia's support for easing the sanctions imposed on Pyongyang for its nuclear program.
