North Korea said on Thursday that the launch of two ballistic missiles it was a test of a new “mobile rail missile system”, according to the official North Korean agency KCNA.

Pyongyang launched its two projectiles from Yangdeok (70 kilometers east of the North Korean capital), in the province of Pyongyang del Sur, around 12:34 and 12:39 local time (03:34 and 03:39 GMT), as explained by the Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS).

“The exercise aimed to confirm the viability of the railway mobile missile system initially deployed for action, assessing without warning the combat readiness of the new regiment and its ability to conduct firepower missions and master real warfare procedures, ”North Korea said in this regard.

The trial was “successful” in accordance with the “plan” and “strategy” of Pyongyang, which under the Eighth Party Congress established the Mobile Missile Railway Regiment with the aim of “increasing the ability to carry intense blows to threatening forces “. in many places and at the same time in the event of a necessary military operation ”.

The regiment is also seeking “Powerfully improving the ability to deal more actively with all types of threats as part of the establishment of a new defense strategy”.

After testing, Pak said that the mobile rail missile system is an “effective means of counterattack to deal a heavy blow to threatening forces repeatedly”, and advocated the introduction of this system in accordance with the “modernization policy” of Pyongyang defenses.

Japanese and South Korean authorities warned Wednesday morning that North Korea had fired two ballistic missiles into the Sea of ​​Japan, also known as the East Sea in both Koreas.

At first, South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff reported the launch of “An unidentified projectile”, although it was later indicated that they were two ballistic missiles, reports the South Korean agency Yonhap.

The government of Japan has confirmed the launch. “The recent and repeated launches of ballistic missiles and other projectiles by North Korea are a serious problem for Japan and the international community as a whole.”, the Japanese Ministry of Defense denounced in this regard, reports the Kiodo news agency.

The launch involves the fifth such demonstration by North Korea this year and this comes two days after the end of testing of a new type of long-range cruise missile after two years of research.

North Korea faces international sanctions over nuclear weapons program, UN resolutions banning ballistic missile testing. However, cruise missiles are not subject to sanctions against the Asian country because they constantly use their own propulsion.
