Henrique Capriles on Wednesday called on Venezuelans to participate “without complexes” in the local and regional elections called by the dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro for November 21, which is a step forward that other opposition leaders like Juan Guaidó have not yet taken.

“I am going to vote on November 21, it is a decision that I have more than clear, but a single stick does not make a mountain, I am only one vote”he said at a press conference.

Capriles understands that the next meeting represents an “opportunity” for “the people to have a voice”. “We have just around the corner a process that must be taken without complexes,” said the former presidential candidate, who to the media called for “to take the bull by the ‘horns’ and speak to the people with it. sincerity”.

In this sense, and admitting that political change “will not happen overnight”, claimed his “political experience” to become again the spokesperson for a “desire for change” which had already distanced him from Guaidó in 2020, when he had tested the possibility of participating in the legislative elections organized by Chavismo.

Then, according to Capriles, “there were signs”, insufficient to “complete” the process and consummate a clear candidacy of the opposition against Chavismo. The opposition leader avoided opening a front with other theoretical partners, but stressed that before there was “a strong and robust power option, which generated hope in the people”. “This is not what we have today,” he added.

He avoided commenting on the refusal to participate in the 2018 presidential elections, in the Maduro elections he was proclaimed the winner despite allegations of fraud by the international community, and in the 2020 legislative elections.

The dictatorship of Nicolás Maduro and the Venezuelan opposition are summoned next Friday in Mexico to open a new dialogue process in which Primero Justicia, party of Capriles, will participate with a delegation which will be led by Tomás Guanipa. Capriles also confirmed participation in the Mexican nomination of Stalin Gonzalez.

Regarding this negotiation process – “I would not speak of dialogue”, clarified Capriles – the opposition expects some kind of agreement which allows equal political conditions in Venezuela, although no specific objective has been. fixed. He felt that “it wants to be, like any process, which encompasses” the different sectors and “generates results” so that “it is not another failure”, for which he stressed that “it is necessary to be effective”.

He also said that when negotiating we should not only talk about “political questions, with electoral calendars”: “It is very important that economic and social (issues) are discussed to alleviate the crisis experienced by the vast majority of the population.”

Capriles also described the negotiation as something that “completes the electoral process” which will culminate on November 21, when Venezuelans will be called to the polls to elect the next mayors, state governors and local and regional deputies.

Regarding the coincidence of this process with the imminent elections, he stressed that “it is not exclusive”, but rather that they are two fronts which “complement each other”. “I support any process that means an agreement for Venezuelans,” he told reporters.
