At least one person was killed and three others injured when a man – later detained – stormed a synagogue in Poway, near San Diego, California, where worshipers were preparing to celebrate the Pbadover.

The event was condemned by the President of the United States, Donald Trump, who warned that he did not have too much information but that everything indicated that he "s wrong. was acting as a "hate crime".

The attack initially left four injured, but Poway Mayor Steve Vaus confirmed that one of them had died.

"Hate does not belong in any community … except Poway, we will stick together and go through this tragedy as the family we have always been and we will always be. #PayayStrong," Vaus wrote on his Twitter.

The mayor also confirmed that one man had been arrested and that the three wounded had been taken to the Palomar hospital near the scene.

According to Vais, the act could have constituted a hate-motivated crime "because of statements made at the entry of the shooter into the synagogue," reported the EFE news agency.
