Orangutana Sandra, who became famous in 2014 as the first "non-human person" recognized by the Argentine justice, will be transferred late September, by air, to the United States for his well-being, because of its quality of "sensible" "Judge Elena Liberatori announced Friday.

In his judgment, the judge in charge of the administrative and fiscal litigation of the city of Buenos Aires ordered the Buenos Aires government to guarantee the Orangutan Sandra "the greatest possible welfare".

Liberatori said in its decision that "through professional collaboration and relevant procedural steps," the orang-utan "must be transferred" to the Center of Great Apes, located in the state of Florida, to United States.

He also instructed the authorities of the Ecopark (former zoo of the city of Buenos Aires) to begin the administrative, legal and sanitary procedures necessary to move the animal.

These procedures "are at the last stage since the necessary sanitary controls and international procedures have been completed," the court said.

Sandra has been recognized as a "non-human person", "subject of rights" and "being sensitive", a category recognized by the French Civil Code in January 2015 and confirmed by the Administrative and Tax Litigation Chamber of the City of Buenos Aires in June 2016.
