Pain in Mendoza journalism: Roly López is dead

The famous journalist and writer Rolando “Roly” Lopez passed away this Thursday, leaving a remarkable career in local media and prolific literary production.

Her death, due to an illness she had been battling for a year, caused surprise and pain in the world of Mendoza editorial staff.

López worked for many years in Los Andes, as a columnist and editor of the section Police. He also joined as a correspondent for Perfil, Veintitrés magazine and other graphic media.

Cultivator of a particular style in journalistic chronicle, the section where the criminal universe is reflected has served him to make the leap to non-fiction literature. So, he managed to publish several books, among them, Daily parts (Ed. Diogenes, 2000); Interview with the bandit (Ed. Diógenes, 2006); Diary of a father separated from his daughter (Ed. Cuatro Vientos, 2009); Journalism texts so as not to die in yawns (Ed. Diógenes, 2011); Canelo, the dog who waited for his master for 12 years (Ed. Diógenes, 2015); Eight winners (Ed. Bruma, 2019). His latest book, The boxer who smiled too much, was presented last year, in the midst of a pandemic.

“Don’t forget to say I’m a fan of Godoy Cruz”, had previously asked in an impromptu biography for a note in which he gave an account of this literary vein.
