Parisians and tourists share a vigil at Notre Dame – ElSol.com.ar – Diario de Mendoza, Argentina

Hundreds of Parisians and tourists prayed Tuesday in vigil in front of Notre Dame Cathedral, a day after the impressive fire that destroyed much of the roof of the Gothic temple.

Prayers and songs, religious in nature, took place in an atmosphere of silence and respect in a region bordering the fluvial island of the Seine, where the cathedral was erected in the twelfth century.

On the eve of Holy Week, during which Notre-Dame traditionally dressed as a gala to welcome the Easter services, the acts, spontaneous, had a religious character.

While this vigil was unfolding, it was learned that the bad that peaked at the spire of the cathedral, which collapsed in the fire, was found among the rubble.

This lead figure was one of the pieces to be restored during the renovation works during which the authorities suspect the fire.

Inside the rooster figure are the remains of the relics of Santa Genoveva and San Denis, as well as part of the crown of thorns that Roman soldiers placed Christ in his Calvary to the cross.

The twelve lead sculptures that surrounded the needle were untouched, among which were the representations of the Twelve Apostles.

These characters, installed during the vast renovation of the nineteenth century, had been removed in recent weeks to be restored, which saved them from the flames.
