The European Union will study new sanctions against the Nicaraguan authorities to respond to the “repressive spiral” in the country, where six presidential candidates have been arrested ahead of the November elections. Together with the Member States, we are already evaluating various instruments at our disposal, including new sanctions, ”announced the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Policy, Josep Borrell, during a debate in the European Parliament on the situation in this Central American country.
