Peru has updated death toll from coronavir …

Six specialists appointed by the government of Peru and three officials examined the number of deaths by coronavirus and they counted 184,507 people up to May 22, a number well above the 69,342 recorded by the American University Johns Hopkins with data provided by the Department of Health of that country.

Faced with this situation, epidemiologist Mateo Prochazka, one of the team members, warned that surely other countries will also have to update their death toll.

In addition, he clarified that, even after reviewing cases for a month and a half, the figure in Peru still does not reflect the total number of deaths in the country, including the number of people infected since the start of the pandemic is 1,955,469 cases, which places it in seventeenth place.

However, this update put it back as the country with the highest death rate in the world due to covid-19. Specific, the death rate from the coronavirus in the South American country stood at 551 deaths per 100,000 population, thus surpassing the rate of countries like Hungary and the Czech Republic, which at the beginning of May led the world ranking, with rates of 304 and 283 deaths per 100,000 inhabitants, respectively.

France, in fourth place, reached 5,738,636 infections and 109,824 deaths, while Turkey, in fifth place, accumulated 5,256,516 infected and 47,656 deaths.

Russia fell to sixth position with 5,022,881 infected and 119,830 deaths; The UK, in seventh place, has 4,506,333 infected, in addition to 128,045 deaths; and Italy moved to eighth place with 4,220,304 cases and 126,221 deaths.

For its part, Argentina, which climbed to ninth place, has 3,817,139 contaminations, in addition to 78,733 deaths due to the pandemic, while Germany, now in tenth place, has 3,692 908 people infected and 88,677 deaths.

Spain fell to eleventh place with 3,682,699 infections and 79,987 deaths; Meanwhile, Colombia has 3,432,422 positive cases and 89,297 deaths.
