NEW YORK – The company Pfizer “has stepped up production” of its coronavirus vaccine and will be able to supply the United States with 10% more than its planned doses by the end of MayLaboratory director Albert Bourla said on Twitter on Tuesday.
The group, which developed the product with the German company BioNTech, will also be able to “Deliver all of the 300 million doses agreed by the end of July two weeks in advance”he added.
The announcement comes after the decision by US health authorities to recommend a “pause” in the application of the Covid-19 vaccine from the Johnson & Johnson laboratory to investigate the appearance of severe cases of clots in several people inoculated with this drug in the country.
This recommendation should not have a “significant impact” on the vaccination campaign in the United States, according to the White House. President Joe Biden has promised that the United States will have sufficient doses for all adults by “the end of May”.
“Vaccine stocks have become more abundant,” Peter Marks, an official with the United States Drug Administration (FDA), confirmed at a press conference. In addition to the 300 million doses of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine at the end of July, the government has placed an order for 300 million doses of the Moderna vaccine for the same period. Washington has also ordered 100 million doses from the Johnson & Johnson laboratory.
