A teenager was partially blind and deaf after following a special diet of fries and sausages for ten years just because he did not like the texture of vegetables and caves.
This unprecedented case occurred in the English city of Bristol and was viralised via a publication of the prestigious Annals of Internal Medicine.
The 19-year-old has a eating disorder called ARFID (selective eating disorder). The severe lack of vitamins has finally caused irreversible damage to the optic nerve, which connects the eye to the brain.
The doctors discovered that he was suffering from a condition called nutritional optic neuropathy, common in countries with high malnutrition rates.
The affected boy 's mother realized that something was wrong when she started having hearing problems at age 14.
According to the woman, her son ate only fries, sausages, ham and white bread and that he gradually moved away from his friends and isolated himself from society in general.
"When this behavior begins in childhood, it tends to continue into adulthood", they said of the medical center that treats them.
Also at the hospital, they advised young people to leave the "junk food"because it attracts cardiovascular problems, obesity and cancer.
