A small jet plane crashed shortly after taking off from a small Connecticut airport on Thursday morning, causing the death of the four people on boardthe authorities said.
The jet took off shortly before 10 a.m. from Robertson Airport before crash into the building of Trumpf Inc, an industrial machinery manufacturing company, Farmington Police Lt. Tim McKenzie said.
“It seems that there was some kind of mechanical failure during the take-off sequence which caused the accident”, noted.
The plane, a Cessna Citation 560X, was heading for the Dare County Regional Airport in Manteo, North Carolina, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. Two pilots and two passengers on the plane died, McKenzie said. Their names were not immediately disclosed.
The accident sparked a chemical fire inside the Trumpf buildingsaid Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, a Democrat. Everyone inside the Trumpf building has been found and there were no serious injuries, McKenzie said.
Lamont said authorities were in the process of identifying those who died on the plane. “It was a fireball, an explosion, then the chemical fires”, noted. “I think they are still trying to identify who was there, to identify relatives before we can say anything else. I just know it was amazing. The thing was full of kerosene ”.
Farmington is in central Connecticut, about 10 miles southwest of the state capital, Hartford. McKenzie said that an intense fire burned for more than 20 minutes.
Caleb Vaichaus, who works near the crash site, said he rushed to the scene after hearing a loud explosion and seeing plumes of black smoke coming from the Trumpf building. “I ran over to see if I could help him. I got as close as possible and the flames were very hot and the fire was growing, ”he said. WTIC-TV.
