More than 20 years after the murder of three women in South Florida, authorities have identified a serial killer responsible for the brutal killings.

Thanks to DNA test, Broward County Police identified Roberto Wagner Fernandes, Brazilian citizen living in Miami in the early 2000s.

It wasn’t until 2011 that an investigation by Miami Police revealed that the genetic material we had at Broward was the same as what they had in another investigation. Over time, we also found out that the fingerprints we had were those of Wagner Fernandes, which had been collected during the investigation into his wife’s death years ago, ”Tony explained.

In 1996, in Brazil, Wagner Fernandes’ wife died and he was arrested as a suspect in the murder. However, the local authorities let him go. In addition, he had been involved in several violent cases which did not result in homicides. Following the investigation into the murder of his wife, he leaves Brazil and settles in Miami.

Apparently, on his return to Brazil, his late wife’s family paid for his murder. Upon learning, Wagner Fernandes wanted to flee to Paraguay. While trying to do so, on a private flight, the plane crashed in 2005. It is not known whether the plane crash was linked to the attempted murder of his wife’s family.

Lest Wagner Fernandes fake his death, Brazilian police carried out DNA tests on the body and they confirmed that it was indeed he who was dead.

Beyond the end of the three murders committed between 2000 and 2001, the police believe that Wagner Fernandes may be responsible for other murders in South Florida. This is why they ask that if anyone has any clues, that they please contact the local authorities.
