Pope Francis asked the priests to approach the poor and the oppressed

As part of the beginning of Holy Week celebrations, Pope Francis today addressed a request to priests for their work with the most vulnerable sectors and congratulated them "image of the poor and the oppressed".

"Luke points out four main groups who are the preferred recipients of the Lord's anointing: the poor, the prisoners of war, the blind, the oppressed"said the pontiff at the chrism mbad.

"These are the ones who complete and realize the union of the Spirit in us, who have been anointed to anoint," he said to the 50 cardinals and 70 bishops who accompanied him, in the midst of 1800 priests. Likewise, the Sovereign Pontiff said of the most vulnerable: "We have been abducted from among them and we can fearlessly identify with these simple people. They are the image of our soul and the image of the Church"

During his homily, he took the opportunity to reiterate his criticisms of "clericalism", which refers to a biblical episode in which the disciples sought to "want to make sure that people's food and comfort are selfless".

In this context, the Sovereign Pontiff called for the conversion of his priests, which he encouraged to become "reungidos by faith and cario of our city". "He who learns to anoint and bless is cured of littleness, abuse, and cruelty," he tells them.
