Pope Francis assured this Tuesday that “in history, even today, there is a slavery of women” and stressed that “women do not have the same opportunities as men”., during the general audience held in the Paul VI Hall of the Vatican.

The Argentine pontiff dedicated his catechesis to a call to Christians to unity, not to create social separations and differences between the two sexes or between people of different religions, but it was also reminiscent of today’s new slaves and how women do not have the same opportunities.

“How many times do we hear expressions that despise women! How many times have we heard: ‘No, don’t do anything, it’s female stuff’ ”Francisco said.

“Man and woman have the same dignity, and in history, even today, there is a slavery of women: women do not have the same opportunities as men. You have to read what Paul says: we are equal in Jesus Christ, ”he added.

Francisco also spoke about the differences between slaves and free men in ancient times and pointed out that “this also happens today: so many people in the world, many, millions, who do not have the right to eat, they do not have the right to education, they do not have the right to work”.

“These are the new slaves, these are the ones from the periphery, who are exploited by everyone. We deny these people human dignity “he added.

He also pointed out that “All men and women are children of God, all, no matter what religion we have”.
