(ANSA) – The next World Youth Day will be held in Portugal, announced Cardinal Kevin Farrell, Prefect of the Dicastery of the Laity, Family and Life, in the presence of dad Francisco. The announcement was made at the end of the pontiff's Mbad in Panama.

Francisco ended his visit to Panama yesterday and returns to Rome, where his arrival is scheduled at 11:50, local time, at the airport of Ciampino, in the Italian capital. The Sovereign Pontiff concluded his historic visit to Panama, where he shared millions of young people from different parts of the world on World Youth Day (WYD 2019). Hundreds of enthusiastic pilgrims and Panamanians participated in the farewell ceremony.

Jorge Bergoglio left Sunday the Tocumen International Airport for Rome, Italy. During his stay in the country, the Argentine pontiff, where he arrived on January 23, had a busy schedule including a meeting with the President of the Republic, Juan Carlos Varela, at the Palacio de las Garzas.

He also met with various authorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a meeting with the Latin American Episcopal Council (Celam) in the parish of San Francisco de Ass and presided over the reception ceremony at "Campo Santa Mara la Antigua", to which thousands of young people participating in WYD 2019 were present.

It was Pope Francis' first trip to Panama, a country that receives a pontiff for the second time after the reign of John Paul II on March 5, 1983, which stayed for 10 hours as part of a pilgrimage of eight days in which visited several countries in the region such as Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Guatemala and other countries.
