The prince Andres was briefed on a sexual assault trial in the United States by lawyers for a woman who claims she was forced to have sex with him at the London mansion of Ghislaine Maxwell, ex-girlfriend of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, court documents show.

According to federal regulations, Duke of York has 21 days to respond or could face trial in absentia. Giuffre’s lawyers had previously claimed they were also serving Andres, who is the second son of Queen Elizabeth II, in the UK.

Andrés and his lawyers have denied Giuffre’s claims. The 61-year-old prince has not been charged with any crime. Giuffre’s lawsuit filed on August 9 seeks unspecified damages.

The prince’s legal team in London has not made any comments to the press.

Giuffre, 38, accused Andrés of forcing her to keep Minor sex in the London estate of Ghislaine Maxwell, a former associate of Epstein. He also denounced that the prince abused her at Epstein’s mansion in Manhattan and on the financier’s private island in the Virgin Islands the United States.

Epstein committed suicide in a Manhattan prison in August 2019 while awaiting trial for sex trafficking.

Maxwell she is being held in New York. In total, she is charged with eight crimes, including charges of child sex trafficking. She could face a maximum of 80 years behind bars if found guilty. She was arrested last July in New Hampshire after being reported missing for a year. His trial was postponed to November after his lawyers requested more time to prepare his defense.

Giuffre sued under the New York Child Victims Law, a 2019 law that gives child sexual abuse survivors a window to prosecute their alleged abusers for behavior that took place years or decades ago.

District Judge Lewis Kaplan, who is overseeing Giuffre’s trial, urged both sides not to dwell on the “technicalities” and instead focus on the substance of the case.

For his part, Brettler called the procedure “illegal” and he recalled that Giuffre had made a deal with the late Epstein to remain silent. “This is an unfounded, unsustainable and potentially illegal claim,” the lawyer said in a hearing by telephone.

The prince resigned his royal duties in November 2019 after granting an interview with the BBC about her relationship with Epstein, which is now considered a PR disaster. Not willing to collaborate on the cause, the Duke of York made several maneuvers to avoid receiving official notification in London, including moving with his ex-wife, Sarah Ferguson, to Balmoral Castle in Scotland.
