Queen Elizabeth II’s husband, Prince Philip, 99 years old, who had recently been hospitalized and underwent successful heart surgery, died on Friday, Buckingham Palace announced.

“With deep sadness, Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh,” said a statement. “Her Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle”, he clarified.
