Prosecutor’s office exhumed the lifeless body of a nurse who died of covid-19 and showed the human remains to be those of a man

Eight months of waiting must have passed since the relatives of Barranquilla nurse Marilyn Pérez asked the Technical Investigation Body (CTI) of the Attorney General’s office to exhume the body that was lying in the Jardines cemetery in la Eternidad, located in Puerto Colombia.

Taking into account that the nurse died on July 6, 2020 after being infected with covid-19, his relatives expected to receive his body to say goodbye to him, but they encountered an unforeseen event, which to date has not been elucidated.

The nurse worked at the Maternal and Child Hospital in Soledad, Atlántico, and was part of the frontline battle against covid-19. Apparently, Pérez remained hospitalized at the El Prado clinic recovering from a respiratory illness, but at death, there would have been confusion when the corpse of another person was delivered to the funeral home Jardines de la Eternidad, in charge of the burial of the victim.

In principle, the exhumation had not been authorized due to the health risk the process involved as he was a victim of coronavirus. However, by order of a judge of the Republic, the procedure could be brought forward to Wednesday, March 3.

With the intervention of the CTI of the public prosecutor’s office, the authorities confirmed to Marilyn’s relatives that the human remains found in the tomb of the Jardines de la Eternidad cemetery correspond to the body of a man, who in life would have been identified with the name of José Muñoz Visbal.

With the approval of the Supreme Court of Justice, before the guardianship received by the Pérez Hernandez family, The High Court ordered the 66th Section Prosecutor of the Public Security Unit of Barranquilla to verify whether the buried body actually belonged to Marilyn Pérez and to be able to locate the place where her body was found..

Although investigators transferred the human remains to the Institute of Forensic Medicine, the location of Marilyn Pérez’s lifeless body is still unknown.

Meanwhile, Eliana Pérez, Marilyn’s sister, declared that after being informed of what had happened, she and the rest of her family were waiting for the authorities to continue the search for the nurse’s body.

The statements of the victim’s sister published by La FM radio show that relatives are still waiting to find Marilyn’s remains in another cemetery. This Eliana said:

It was given as a light for all the entanglements that happened that day, at the time of the delivery of these corpses, of the two that were as if missing, my sister was supposed to be in this sacred field, like the clinic we said it. They found the man who was also lost; Now we have faith and hope that in the other sacred field, where the man they found yesterday would have been buried, there we will find my sister

After having sued and taken protective actions for the disappearance of Marilyn’s body at the El Prado clinic, It was the Barranquilla Health Secretariat that gave the green light to open an investigation, establish responsibilities and possible sanctions for the effects on the families involved..

In the meantime, the ruling by the Supreme Court of Justice annulled the archiving order for this process, which had been decreed on August 28, 2020.
