Prosecutor’s office waived prosecution of former magistrate accused of sexual abuse

The Mexico City Attorney General’s Office (FGJCDMX) will not prosecute Manuel Horacio Cavazos López, the former magistrate of the Superior Court of Justice of Mexico (TSJCDMX) which was accused of raping his 5 and 7 year old daughters.

By a statement on his Twitter account, the The prosecutor’s office explained that its staff “had exhausted all investigative resources” with those they relied on, but argued that they had not found sufficient evidence to support the claim. “Our staff have exhausted all investigative resources at our disposal. In this sense, we inform that after having conducted the procedures, opinions and interviews that dictate the protocols on sexual crimes, We have determined the non-exercise of criminal proceedings, considering that there is no evidence allowing a charge to be made before a supervisory judge.. In other words, the result of the investigation does not allow us to substantiate the complaint presented with evidence, ”they reported.

In its statement, the prosecution explained that injured people are always put first and stressed that in this case special attention has been paid because the alleged victims are girls. However, They stressed that their commitment was to justice, so that they would not “be guilty”.

“The prosecutor’s office has always considered the best interests of children and the protection of victims. We made the institutional channels available to the complainant and allowed free access to the files and to the procedures implemented. At all times, the legal representative of minors was accompanied by a private legal advisor, from whom the exercise of their victim rights was sought.“, He added.

Finally, the prosecution stressed that the victims had the right to present appeals for the review of this decision.

For its part, the mother described the prosecution’s action as “cowardly” because she presented all kinds of evidence to support the claims, and even accused the prosecutor of making fun of her.
