RAE now supports inclusive language: we are ready to improve

"We are more than willing to promote all that is necessary for the visibility of the female gender in the language to increase even more," said Santiago Muñoz Machado, director of the Royal Spanish Academy (RAE), in the city of Córdoba, where the 8th International Congress of the Spanish Language is celebrated.

Muñoz Machado felt that "historical inequalities are also noticeable in the language" and affirmed that "the academy is willing to improve the situation".

The words of the director of the RAE are a change of position of the institution.

In October 2018, Darío Villanueva Prieto was the director of the RAE and went to Córdoba to present the Congress of Languages. At that time and consulted on the subject, he thought that the letter "e" was discriminatory.

"The letter 'e' was already installed and it was considered discriminatory.If we have some memory, we will remember that in Spanish, 'president' gave rise to 'president'" , said this opportunity.
