Rafael Salazar, a mechanical engineering student at the National University, withdrew from a farm where he was staying with his family on April 12 last year, so he could not return with her. Only until Monday, and in a place they never imagined they would find him.

At that time, the mother of the 31-year-old man, Luz Helena Cobos, a resident of Barrancabermeja (Santander), reported him as missing, because without a word he left the farm in question, and until ‘in October, she heard from him again. .

Rafael called her, according to her mother, although she did not appear. He did not give details of his whereabouts. If he knew where his son was, it was thanks to the money transfers he made through Serviantega. “That’s why I knew he was in Santa Marta, in Ciénaga, in many places,” Luz Helena told El Tiempo.

What worried him most was that Rafael was taking medication for the schizophrenia he suffers from, diagnosed three years ago. According to his mother, due to lack of medication to treat the mental disorder, Rafael was unable to return home.

And if he was able to stand in the cities of Colombia where he was, some unknown to him, it is thanks to the fact that he has always been a man devoted to physical activity, Luz Helena Cobos explained to the Bogota newspaper:

He exercised a lot, he was in athletics, swimming and I think that’s why he was able to survive

Well, the angst that Rafael’s mother and the whole family felt after his disappearance has ended. The young man was found and identified by the police in Yondó (Antioquia), thanks to the opinion that the community has given, according to Colonel Gustavo Martínez, police commander of Magdalena Medio.

The long-awaited reunion took place on February 15, in Barrancabermeja, where Rafael arrived with clean hair and clothes, as his physical appearance was not the best. “I was born again, ”were the words of his mother, who kept staying awake for just one night thinking of him.
