Relatives of a Republican deputy accused him of joining the “the devil’s army” for voting in favor of the impeachment in which the participation of the former president was assessed Donald trump in the assault on the Capitol. Despite the vote of the man in question, Adam kinzinger, and the nine other Republicans who added their support for the Democrats, Trump again emerged victorious from the second impeachment process against him and was acquitted.
For some, this position was not free. On Monday, the New York Times published a letter relatives sent to Kinzinger, a congressman from Illinois, after the ongoing vote against Trump.
“What a disappointment for us and for the Lord!”said the handwritten letter. “You are going against your Christian principles, you have joined the devil’s army (the Democrats and the fake media),” he adds.
The letter adds that Kinzinger’s family is “ashamed” and accuses the congressman of being persuaded by the “socialist ideals” of the Democratic Party.
Kinzinger told the New York Times that the two-page letter was signed by 11 family members and written by his cousin Karen Otto.
The letter illustrates not only the polarization of American politics, but also the rift created within the Republican Party as it attempts to manage Trump’s withdrawal from the White House.
According to the New York newspaper, Kinzinger, 42, has a very large family: his father has 32 first cousins.
The congressman was one of 10 Republicans who voted to condemn Trump in the House of Representatives. In the Senate, seven party members joined the Democrats against the former president, but that was not enough to condemn him.
