Hundreds of Brazilians took to the streets yesterday with the cry of "dictatorship never again", on the occasion of the 55th anniversary of the coup d'etat that ushered in more than two decades of military rule. The right-wing government Jair Bolsonaro, a nostalgic declared dictator and asked to commemorate the date in the barracks, released a video in which it is reported that the coup d'etat was made public by Brazil.

In Brasilia, about a thousand protesters accused Bolsonaro of being an "activist" and demanded his departure. Bolsonaro, a 64-year-old former army captain who brought eight servicemen to his cabinet, has never hidden his admiration for the former dictators of Brazil. "This is not a date that should be commemorated.It is a day of mourning, violence, brutality," said Maria Fátima, a retired 65-year-old teacher who spoke in Rio. This is also the position of fifty organizations of civil society that yesterday published a note in which they say: "A dictatorship is not celebrated."
