Renowned civil rights activist and two-time Democratic presidential hopeful Reverend Jesse Jackson and his wife Jacqueline were hospitalized after testing positive for COVID-19, according to a statement released on Saturday.
Jackson, 79, is vaccinated against the virus and received her first dose in January at a publicized event urging others to receive the inoculation as soon as possible. He and his 77-year-old wife are being treated at Northwest Memorial Hospital in Chicago.
“Doctors are currently monitoring the condition of both”, according to a statement from the Rainbow / PUSH Coalition, a nonprofit organization of Jesse Jackson.

The news of Jackson’s hospitalization comes as the United States is hit by a new wave of infections from the delta variant, which has skyrocketed daily cases to more than 70,000 across the country.
