Rio de Janeiro: two buildings collapsed and there are dead and missing

Two collapsed buildings this Friday Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and beyond at least two people dead.

The mayor of Rio de Janeiro said the collapsed buildings were illegal in a booming real estate region with building construction.

"I was in my room, I felt a tremor and I went to the living room, the roof fell on me and I started going down the stairs to escape", said Edvaldo, a survivor who lived on the first floor of one of the collapsed buildings.

The region is controlled by para-police militias in the Rio das Pedras district, which are also accused of carrying out illegal real estate activities on public land or in conflict.

These are irregular buildings built in favelas or neighborhoods without horizontal infrastructure. The police mafia sells them without writing.
