Ten detainees were killed and 15 others wounded as a result of a bloody confrontation between members of two rival groups in a Paraguayan prison.

The incident, which began at noon and lasted approximately three hours, took place in the penitentiary of the municipality of San Pedro de Ycuamandyyú. Inmates involved in the fight had links to groups called & # 39; First Comma Da Capital & # 39; and the "Clan Rotela".

Both groups operate in Paraguay, particularly in areas bordering Brazil, such as the town of Pedro Juan Caballero, where they control drug trafficking.

Security forces managed to regain control of the penitentiary several hours after the start of the confrontation and, during the operation, several knives and firearms were confiscated.

According to the Paraguayan Attorney General's Office, five of those killed were beheaded, three others were cremated and two others died in a health center as a result of their injuries. All the victims had been wounded by a knife or by fire.

A total of 15 people were injured, five of whom were sent to the emergency room. Although seven bodies have already been identified, there are two that are still in the study, according to the medical examiner, Pablo Lemir.
