Napier had a career year with Portland in 2017 -18. He averaged 8.7 points and 2.3 rebounds in 72 games, while lowering 37.6% of his 3-point attempts

The Blazers made Napier an unrestricted free player when they refused to make a qualifying offer at the end of June. He began his career with the Heat and played one season with the Magic before being traded to Portland in July 2016.

The Nets finished the 2017-18 season with a record of 28-54 and have missed the playoffs for a third consecutive season. They traded playmaker Jeremy Lin to the Hawks earlier this week.
