The Russian President, Vladimir Poutine, ordered this Wednesday start of the mass vaccination campaign against the coronavirus. The application of Sputnik V, which the president defined as “The best vaccine in the world”, will start next Monday.

“I ask to start mass vaccination of the entire population from next week,” Putin said at a government meeting via video conference.

Russia began immunizing priority segments of the population, such as medical and educational staff, in December. Gradually, the vaccination has been extended to more citizens and now the vaccination of the whole population will begin.

The country ruled by Putin was the first country in the world to approve a vaccine against the coronavirus. According to the Russian Sovereign Fund (RDIF), which financed the start-up of Sputnik V, more than a million people in Russia have already been vaccinated.

“The Russian vaccine, it’s clear and the facts confirm it, is the best in the world, I think,” Putin said today. In this context, he praised above all the storage and transport conditions, which “do not require extreme requirements” and added that “it is much simpler and more efficient”.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golikova, in charge of health, explained that everything is ready to start a mass vaccination from Monday. Russia is experiencing a strong second wave of coronavirus but the authorities refuse to decree national containment.
