Russia confirms Sputnik V does not produce side effects in people over 60 – telam

The Nikolái Gamaleya Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, which manufactures the Russian vaccine Sputnik V against the coronavirus that arrived in Argentina, has reaffirmed that no adverse effects have been detected in the elderly.

In contrast, the official said the Gamaleya Center has not received samples of the new strain of the coronavirus detected in the UK as of yet, although he did indicate that inoculation protects against this variant since ‘it only affects a small point on the surface of the viral protein.

On August 11, Russia registered the first vaccine against Covid-19 which is produced in cooperation with the Russian Fund for Direct Investments.

The vaccine, which consists of two components: the first is based on human adenovirus type 26, and the second, on recombinant human adenovirus type 5, is administered twice, at an interval of 21 days.

Anmat certification

After the visit to Russia of its technicians, the State Administration of Drugs, Food and Medical Technology (Anmat) issued a technical report that certifies the approval of the Sputnik V vaccine in the country, in which it highlights that the vaccine is more effective than expected and that its effectiveness does not vary by age group.

In the report, Anmat said he had received all of the enabling information about the vaccine, which “shows safety and efficacy in a higher than acceptable range.”

The three hundred thousand doses of the Sputnik V vaccine arrived in Ezeiza this Thursday, they will participate in the first stage with which the vaccination process begins throughout the country.

These first doses will be intended for health workers across the country, said Minister of Health Ginés González García, Chief of Staff Santiago Cafiero; and infectologist Pedro Cahn, member of the vaccination committee, who indicated that they will be intended: “for those who are on the front line of the fight against the coronavirus.

The immunization plan will include 116,000 immunization team members, including vaccinators and support staff, and 7,749 health facilities equipped to immunize, in addition to 10,000 volunteers who will join the Activate program.

President Alberto Fernández will meet this Saturday with governors from all over the country to finish defining the vaccination campaign in each of the 24 jurisdictions after the arrival in Argentina of the first doses of Sputnik V.

The meeting, which is scheduled in virtual form, will be held in the afternoon and will be the starting point to begin the vaccination process at the national level, described as an “epic” by President Fernández and which will reach all corners from the country. .
