Russia has another daily record of coronavirus deaths as cases decline in the rest of the world

Russia recorded 852 deaths from COVID-19 in the past day, a new high since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, according to data released on Tuesday by health authorities.

The highest number of deaths from the contagious disease has been reported in Moscow, with 63 deaths, followed by Saint Petersburg (58).

The last record was recorded on September 24, when 828 people died from the coronavirus.

Since the start of the pandemic, they have died in Russia 205,531 citizens due to the disease, although official statistics on excessive deaths triple that figure.

During the last day, they also detected 21,559 new cases of coronavirus in the 85 regions of the country, of which 1709 correspond to asymptomatic people.

Likewise, health authorities have indicated that a total of 6,635,485 people have recovered from COVID-19 to date, including 17,368 exits in the past day, while 1,272,307 are under observation as suspected cases, according to the National Office for Consumer Protection (Rospotrebnadzor).

In cumulative terms, Russia is already adding 7,464,708 cases infectious diseases since the start of the pandemic.

Russia is today the fourth country with the most infections in the world, behind only the United States, India, Brazil and the United Kingdom.

The most recent report from the World Health Organization (WHO), which corresponds to the week of September 13-19, indicated a general decline in cases and deaths. The 3.6 million global cases of COVID-19 during this period represented a drop of 9% from the previous seven days. Deaths during the same period were 59,000, 7% lower, so last week was the fourth consecutive decline.

The WHO has also warned that the delta variant, more contagious and the main cause of the wave of COVID-19 recorded in recent months on the planet, is already present in 90% of global cases, according to the surveillance carried out of the coronavirus. genome through the GISAID initiative.

By region, only Africa recorded an increase in cases during the last record, by 4%, while the largest decline was recorded in the Middle East (22%), South Asia (16%) and East Asia (11%).

In Europe and America, where it continues to exceed one million weekly cases in each of these continents, the decline was smaller, respectively 4% and 7%. Cumulatively since the start of the health crisis, America remains the most affected region, with 87 million cases, followed by Europe (68 million), South Asia (42 million) and the Middle East.
