Russian authorities on Thursday reported 820 deaths from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours, a figure equivalent to the maximum to date in the context of the pandemic, a day after the country surpassed the 200,000 death mark from COVID-19.
The national operational center for the fight against the coronavirus detailed that during the last day they were confirmed 21,438 cases, bringing the total to 7,354,995, with 201,445 deaths, according to the Russian news agency Sputnik.
According to Russian epidemiologists, the increase in coronavirus cases is linked to seasonal factors.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Thursday ruled out imposing a general lockdown in the country amid rising COVID-19 positives, but recalled that regional leaders have the power to decide for themselves the development of the situation in the territories under their administration.
The daily death toll equals the maximum recorded on August 26, after two days in which the data had been 812 and 817, respectively. Authorities said on Wednesday that about 40 million adults already have the full immunization schedule against the coronavirus.
The capital, Moscow, appears one more day as the city with the most cases and deaths in the country, with 3,445 and 54, respectively, Followed by Saint PETERSBOURG, which confirmed 1,698 infections and 54 deaths. For its part, the province of Moscow reported 936 positives.
On the other hand, the agency indicated that 16,567 people were released in the last day, bringing the total to 6,558,780, while 1,223,758 people are under observation as suspected cases., according to the National Office for Consumer Protection (Rospotrebnadzor).
