Russia surpassed 150,000 deaths and six million coronavirus infections

Russia surpassed the threshold of 150,000 deaths from the coronavirus on Wednesday according to official figures, after adding more than 780 deaths in the last day, amid a rebound in cases that has led the country to surpass six million infections since the start of the pandemic.

The national operational center for the fight against the coronavirus detailed that in the last 24 hours they have registered 23,704 cases and 783 deaths, bringing the totals to 6,030,240 and 150,705, respectively, as reported by the Russian news agency Sputnik.

The capital, Moscow, appears one more day as the city with the most HIV-positive people and deaths in the country, with 3 254 and 104, respectively. The Moscow region added 2,161 contaminations, against 1,939 in St. Petersburg, which also confirmed 103 deaths.

The agency also pointed out that 5,404,797 people have recovered from COVID-19, including 22,584 in the last day, while the National Office for Consumer Protection (Rospotrebnadzor) indicated that 1,232,779 people are under observation.

The rebound in cases and deaths has been attributed to delta variant, detected for the first time in India, according to the authorities in recent days. For this reason, they called on the population to take extreme precautions and adhere to the restrictions.

Separately, Russia announced on Wednesday that it has produced a pFirst batch of its Sputnik V coronavirus vaccine in Vietnam, with the aim of facilitating access to vaccination in this country which is struggling to stop a wave of COVID-19.
