In the past few hours, a senior Russian government official has been careful to make public a surprising fact about the vaccine that this country has developed against the coronavirus, Sputnik V, which will also be applied in Argentina.

Deputy Prime Minister Tatiana Golíkova, in charge of the vaccination plan, was responsible for announcing the news of the drug.

According to the agency ReutersGolíkova said on Friday “that vaccinated people should avoid public places and reduce their consumption of drugs and alcohol, which could suppress the immune system, within the first 42 days” after applying the first of two doses.

Russia started this Saturday with its vaccination plan which, as reported by Golíkova, will focus first on doctors and teachers.

The Gamaleya Center, developer of Sputnik V, and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (FIDR), assured last week that the vaccine is more than 95% effective and that the price of the two doses needed is around 20 Dollars.

Faced with the worsening epidemic situation in the country, 51% of Russians consider it necessary to cancel the massive New Year’s celebrations all over Russia, and not just in the regions most affected by the coronavirus, according to a survey published today by the Interfax agency.

St. Petersburg, the former imperial capital, and the second hardest-hit city by the epidemic, has ordered restaurants and cafes to close from December 30 to January 3, while museums and theaters will only be open to the public on January 10 .

In Russia, more than 1.8 million people have recovered from covid-19 since the start of the pandemic, of which 29,502 were released in the past 24 hours.

Russia is the fourth country with the most confirmed cases of covid-19 after the United States, India and Brazil.
