The former bishop of Oran, Gustavo Oscar Zanchetta – who had been transferred by the pope to the Vatican – was indicted for the crime of continuing badual abuse aggravated by two seminarians and the court also ruled that the priest could not leave the country and ordered to keep his pbadport, judicial sources said today.
Accompanied by his official defender, Zanchetta appeared yesterday before the prosecutor, Monica Viazzi, interim at the Criminal Bureau of Family Violence and Sexist Violence in Oran (Salta), and refused to testify.
The bishop arrived yesterday from Rome where he will not be able to return until his legal situation has been defined.
At the prosecutor's request, Judge Guarantees 2, Claudio Parisi, decided to impute Zanchetta for the exploitation of two seminarians while he was bishop of Oran. For the same crimes, the priest also faces a canonical inquiry.
In December 2017, Zanchetta was appointed counselor by Pope Francis in the Holy See's heritage administration. (APSA), called "real estate" Vatican and which manages more than five thousand properties around the world.
