At the border with the United States, stories of illegal crossings of people in the hands of smugglers, also called “coyotes” or “polleros”, reach even the cruel and inhuman.
This is the case reported by U.S. Border Patrol agents, who responded to a potentially fatal situation involving two little girls abused and abandoned by a traffickers of people west of Monte Cristo Rey.
In this region of New Mexico, Tuesday evening March 30, 2021, Santa Teresa agent used camera technology to observe smuggler knock down two small miners from the top of the border fence. The height from which the girls hit the ground with great force is about 14 feet high, or 4.2672 meters.
Immediately after the two little girls landed on the ground, two smugglers immediately fled the area to an unknown destination and they abandoned defenseless girls on the north side of the international border.
For his part, the cameraman alerted the Santa Teresa agents and directed them to the remote location of the incident. LThe agents who responded found the Ecuadorian girls aged three and five, who were immediately helped.
According to official border patrol reports, the two little girls are sisters and both were on high alert when officers contacted them.
At the time, both transferred to the border patrol station in Santa Teresa to be evaluated by medical personnel. Officers contacted emergency medical services and the girls were transported to a local hospital for precautionary reasons and further assessment.
In a short time, the little ones were released by doctors, and for the moment they will remain in pre-trial detention, under the surveillance of the border patrol, until they are placed by Health and Social Services, the authorities reported.
For her pâté, the head of the El Paso sector, Gloria I. Chávez, assured that the division was genuinely appalled at the way the little ones were being abandoned at the border, far from her family, who, if they had not been seen, would have had to face deserted conditions.
In addition, he revealed, began investigations to identify traffickers who abandoned three and five year old girls, with the aim of “making them accountable to the fullest extent of the law”.
“I am shocked at how these smugglers brutally threw innocent girls off a 14 foot border fence last night. Without the vigilance of our agents, who use this mobile technology, these two sweet sisters would have been exposed to the harsh elements of the desert environment for hours. We are currently working with our law enforcement partners in Mexico, ”he said in a statement.
For this reason, the United States Customs and Border Protection has invited the community to provide any help around the case. Through a summons, they invited citizens to report any suspicious activity to the United States Border Patrol, all completely anonymously at 1-800-635-2509.
