Scientists have pointed out that the air is the main route of contagion of the coronavirus

The British Medical Association published a new study on Thursday in which it reaffirms that the main route of transmission of the coronavirus is through the “aerosols” that are expelled when we speak, that is to say through the air.

In that sense, they cautioned that one of the most effective ways to prevent infections was to ventilate environments and maintain what they called the “blast-garlic distance,” something like the distance you keep with it. someone when they have “bad breath”.

Virologist Julian Tang explained it this way: “When you talk to a friend or share the same tune that you hear your friend talking about, we call it the breath-garlic distance. So if you can smell your friend’s lunch, you inhale some of it. of this air, as well as any virus that is inhaled from it. “

Tang, lead author of a new study released Thursday, added that it is through interaction with another person that a conversation is held within a meter that there is a risk of contagion.

They also insisted on wearing good quality chin straps or masks which actually act as a physical barrier against the aerosols we emit when we breathe or speak and which can stay in the air for hours.

In turn, he asserted that focusing on hand washing and sanitizing surfaces is not as important as making sure spaces are ventilated by closing windows or installing and improving ventilation systems and air conditioning.
