Scientists say Loch Ness monster could be giant eel

A group of scientists has revealed that the famous Loch Ness monster could be a giant European eel.

Scientists have sought to list all possible signs of life in the lake by badyzing the DNA of several water samples at different depths. Among them, evidence of the existence of European eels was found.

At a press conference in Drumnadrochit, a Scottish town near the lake, researchers have ruled out the presence of large animals.

According to them, they found no evidence of a prehistoric marine reptile called a plesiosaur or a large sturgeon-like fish, as some theories claim.

The geneticist of the University of Otago, Neil Gemmell, said that there was "a very large amount of eel DNA", which however does not indicate its dimensions.

"Our data do not reveal its size, but the large amount of material indicates that we can not exclude the possibility of giant eels on Loch Ness, so we can not exclude the possibility that what people are seeing and believe it's the Loch Ness monster that could be a giant eel, "he added.

During the survey, more than 200 water samples from different depths of the lake were collected, collecting all the extracted and sequenced forms of environmental DNA.

Result: about 500 million sequences were verified using existing databases, so that it was possible to record all the living things that populate the most famous lake of 39; Scotland, including plants, insects, fish and mammals.
