Sebastián Piñera confirmed Tuesday that Chile will hold a Presidents' Summit in March for the creation of Prosur, a South American forum in which Venezuela will not participate, and will seek to replace Unasur.

"In March, we will have a meeting of presidents in our country to give impetus to the Prosur project, which is a forum for the development of South America," said Chile's president at the time. a press conference in the Mint Palace.

He also explained that Prosur will be an organization "without ideologies or bureaucracy" this will strengthen the integration, the economy and the trade of the countries of the region.

But he specified that only nations that comply with requirements such as "the full validity of democracy and the rule of law and full respect for human rights and freedoms."

"You note that only Venezuela is excluded because Venezuela does not respect," Piñera said.

At this meeting, the Presidents ofArgentina, Brazil, Bolivia – Venezuela's ally in the region – Colombia, Chile, Ecuador, Uruguay, Paraguay, Peru, Guyana and Suriname.

Piñera also badured that Prosur will replace the Union of South American Nations (Unasur), body that is going through a crisis since it has virtually no activity after being left brainless by the exit of its former general secretary Ernesto Samper in 2017. "Unasur failed because of its excess of ideology and bureaucracy and gave no results (…) Prosur will not be an ideological forum as was Unasur, "Piñera said.

Unasur began operations in 2011 under the wing of the majority of left-wing presidents who then ruled South America, including Inacio Lula Da Silva (Brazil) and Hugo Chávez (Venezuela).
