The Hollywood star explained that during a walk in the jungle, he tripped over a fallen tree and broke his leg in four places.

The American actress visits the rainforest of this Central African country twice a year to promote actions in defense of bonobos, also known as pygmy chimpanzees, an endangered species.

Judd explained how his accident progressed in a live dialogue with his friend, New York Times columnist Nicholas Kristof.

But his misadventure did not end there. He reached the town of Jolu, where he spent the night in a cabin. The next day it was transported by plane to the capital Kinshasa, where she stayed 24 hours. Finally, she was able to catch a plane that took her to South Africa, where she was eventually operated on in a hospital and is already recovering. The whole odyssey lasted 55 hours “, said the actress. And I add: “I almost lost my leg.”

“I know I am lucky and that I had the resources to get help,” said the protagonist of films such as “Kisses that kill” or “Double risk”. And he continued: “If this same accident had happened to a Congolese person, without access to medical care, without pain medication, without any type of service or options, it is highly likely that he would have lost his leg or died. .

From the hospital bed where she is being admitted, Judd explained that her injuries to her right leg will take some time to heal.

The specialist doctor assured him that he will walk again, but that he does not know when and that he is in no rush.. “I have a journey ahead of me, but I remember sometimes the darkness is not so far from the light”he thinks.
