Severe floods trigger an emergency situation in Australia with crocodiles on the streets

Australia has deployed troops in the north-east to fight the unprecedented floods that have flooded homes, schools and airports and dragged crocodiles into the streets. The army, which has distributed 70,000 sandbags, yesterday used amphibious cargo ships to rescue residents from its rooftops, while monsoon rains flooded the state of Queensland. The tropical north of Australia experiences heavy rains during the monsoon season, but the recent shower has far exceeded normal levels, especially in the coastal town of Townsville. (AFP)
