Germany recorded a sharp increase in xenophobic and anti-Semitic crimes in 2018, mainly from the right, according to the annual report presented Tuesday by the Minister of the Interior, the conservative Horst Seehofer.
In total, they registered 7,700 racist crimes, an increase of 20% over the previous year, a percentage similar to that relating to anti-Semitism, whose calculation was placed in 1,799 cases, which represents an increase of 19.5%.
90% of this group of crimes – badault or propaganda – had a ultra-right bottom, according to the statistics of the interior.
The ministry report also highlights the sharp rise in crime related to conflicts abroad, as attacks against institutions run by citizens of Turkish origin as a result of the Turkish army's offensive in Syria.
Seehofer pointed out, on the other hand, that the total number of crimes of political origin, whether it is the extreme right, radical left or foreign groups, stands at 36,062s, according to data collected by the Federal Criminal Police (BKA), which badumes a slight worldwide descent.
More than half of these crimes -20,431 cases- are attributed to the far right, making it the main target of political offenses in the BKA statistics.
The number of the crimes of the radical left, on the other hand, decreased by 18% compared to the previous year, to be placed in the 7,961 cases.
Similarly the number of crimes against the Islamic fund has decreased, with a total of 586, which represents a decrease of almost 50%.
Seehofer, from The Bavarian Christian Social Union (CSU) linked this evolution to the defeats of the Islamic State (IS) terrorist group in Syria and Iraqalthough he insisted that he could not lower his guard over the activities of his supporters or supporters in Germany.
"It's definitely a Good news: the global decline of political crime. But the increase in crimes related to the antisemitism and xenophobia"said BKA President Holger Münch.
