A Cypriot court has deferred the case of a 19-year-old British woman, suspended for a week because of a disturbance of public order, who confessed that her claim that 12 Israelis had raped her at a hotel was false.
His lawyer, Andreas Pittadjis, said the judge had accepted his request to postpone the hearing until August 7 to consider the evidence presented by the police.
The Cypriot news agency reported that the woman had told the police that she had filed a rape complaint because she felt "furious and offended" that Israelis had filmed her while she had had bad with several men.
According to Pittadjis, the "most likely" is that his accused made a statement at his next appearance, but did not specify what he would do. The charge is punishable by a maximum sentence of one year imprisonment and 1,700 euros (1,890 dollars) fine.
He added that the woman had agreed to stay in prison until August 7th.
Pittadjis sharply criticized a video showing that his accused had bad with several men and said that the leak was a "much more serious crime" than the woman was facing.
The Cypriot police on Sunday released the last seven of the 12 Israelis arrested on 17 July, when the woman said she was raped in the same hotel where they were all staying.
The police stated that the woman had voluntarily retracted.
