Elizabeth esteban She is a young woman of indigenous origin who lives in the United States. She is the daughter of Mexican parents, originally from Michoacán, and has the big dream of becoming a member of Congress.

She had to overcome various challenges to be where she is now: getting a full scholarship to study at the prestigious Harvard University.

While his parents worked in agricultural fields in California, she, from a mobile home in east Coachella Valley, was studying to move forward. She was striving to become a professional who would bring well-being to her family, not knowing that she would go further than she imagined.

Because, although he had to face a shortage of resources during the pandemic, he managed to get into Harvard. The student even doubted that she would have to apply to university. “I didn’t think my accomplishments deserved to attend such a prestigious university”, he counted.

“No one in this community has been able to achieve it and I feel very proud and very grateful, and happy because no one here thinks that someone on this side of the Eastern Valley can achieve something like this (… ) “, explained Elizabeth Esteban, who also had to fight with bad internet connection in your area.

Therefore, this story was about not to happen since Elizabeth suffered from various problems with the internet during her last year of high school, which made it difficult for her to learn. And they even interrupted her during an interview with the university. Although the government gave him a tool to help him, it was mostly useless.

“I received an internet device from the neighborhood and most of the time my screen was a circle trying to reconnect”, said the young woman.

Even so, Elizabeth Esteban was able to reach a place where she believed that because she was of humble, indigenous and Latino descent she would never be able to set foot: the prestigious Harvard University.

According to US media, the acceptance rate at Harvard is only 3%. In addition, things get worse when it comes to Hispanic applicants, as only 10% of the student population of this university belong to this community.

In a few weeks, Elizabeth will be visiting the campus of her new study house, making her parents proud. “It was worth it because my daughter has already achieved what she so craved, her dream of studying, and now with more reason. I am very proud that all the goals have been achieved, ”said Cecilia Esteban, her mother.

The next step for Elizabeth is to prepare for her studies at Political Sciences, and therefore later become a member of the Congress of his region. He knows that what has been achieved has become an example for the members of his community, whom he dreams of helping in the future from the United States Congress.
