Shooting in California: Police report “several dead” in San José

Police reported “several dead”In a shooting that took place this Wednesday in San José (California) and confirmed that the attacker is also dead, without specifying the circumstances.

The mayor of San José said several people were being treated for injuries after police and sheriff officials responded to reports of a shooting near a train station. Mayor Sam Liccardo said in a tweet that “the shooter is no longer a threat” and the facility has been evacuated.

Filming took place at a light rail installation where the railway units are stored, which is next to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Department and across from a highway from the airport.

A spokesperson for the Valley Transportation Authority did not immediately respond to multiple requests for comment.

Gov. Gavin Newsom said in a tweet that his office was “in close contact with local law enforcement and monitoring this situation closely.” Special agents from the FBI and the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives responded to the crime scene, authorities said.

The United States has a long and painful history of gun violence, marked by a steady number of shootings every day, as well as high-ranking mass killings that have primarily targeted schools, workplaces and shopping malls.
