Shooting in front of a Parisian hospital: there is one dead, one injured and the suspect is on the run

One person died and another was shot on Monday outside a hospital in paris, and the author of the shootings is a fugitive, he told the AFP a police source.

The incident took place in front of the Henry Dunant private hospital, property of the Red Cross, in the elegant 16th arrondissement of the French capital, where several shots were heard.

The facility, located west of Paris, is a geriatric hospital and is also currently a covid-19 vaccination center.

The two people who were shot were immediately treated by staff at the facility, but one of them died, the police source said. The injured woman is a hospital security guard.

At the moment, the circumstances of the shooting are unknown. The authorities work as the main hypothesis with the possibility that it is a settling of scores, thus excluding that it is a terrorist event. According to the district councilor, Francis Szpiner, this is clear from the testimonies collected by the judicial police. Noura Berrahmouni from the DSPAP Alliance commented: “It was so fast we assume it was a calculation. Otherwise, we think there could be more victims ”.

The deceased, believed to be the target of the attack, was shot several times in the head and the injured woman was reportedly the victim of a stray bullet. The manager of a restaurant located just opposite indicated in BFM Television that the hooded assailant walked “as if nothing” immediately after firing until he reached the motorcycle he fled with, which was parked with a waiting driver.

The area around the hospital was cordoned off and there was a heavy presence of police patrolling the streets and ambulances parked in front of the hospital, according to AFP journalists.

“There are a lot of people in shock inside the hospital,” said a Red Cross worker.

Behind the police cordon, patients with medical appointments lined up. The hospital now operates with “a reduced staff,” added the employee, who only allowed entry to people on a priority list, while the others will have to return on Tuesday or Wednesday.
