A Texas policeman shot dead a woman who had taken her stun gun and tried to use it against her shortly after she seemed to say, "I am pregnant," according to the authorities.
The shootout occurred Monday night in Baytown, about 40 kilometers east of Houston. Lt. Steve Dorris of the Baytown Police Department said that the officer was patrolling a building and trying to arrest the 45 – year – old woman he had talked to earlier, because he knew that he was not safe. she had a warrant for arrest.
Dorris said the police officer, after 11 years of police service, opened fire after the woman withdrew her stun gun and tried to shoot her.
In the video that recorded the altercation – and that spread through Snapachat – you can see that the woman says, "You are harbading me", "I'm going home" and "Why". The woman appears on the floor and seems to stretch towards the policeman and say: "I am pregnant". Seconds later, the policeman kills her five times.
The authorities have not identified the woman because they have not yet informed her family. Police said that she could not confirm whether she was pregnant or not and that this would be determined by an autopsy. Dorris said that the officer had no serious injuries.
"It's a tragic event for everyone involved," he said. "Of course, our prayers go to the family of the deceased as well as to our agent."
Dorris said the police were aware of the video that was circulating on social networks and that the investigators wanted to talk to the person who had recorded the incident.
