Sri Lanka bombings: the death toll rises to 290 and the police arrested 24 suspects

The number of victims of the eight bombings perpetrated Sunday against churches and hotels in Sri Lanza has risen to 290., said a spokesman for the police on Monday Ruwan Gunasekera.

More than 500 people were injured in the explosions, added the source, in the worst episode of violence in the country since the end of the devastating civil war, a decade ago.

"It was a homemade bomb, with explosives placed in a pipe"said the source.
